Press Release CMV Castellolí

April 8, 2012

Last weekend it was the first race of the Mediterranean Speed Championship in Parcmotor Circuit of Castellolí.

The rider of Briefing Competició, Alex Martínez Gil, began defending the nº1 that he had won last year in the championship. This year 16 riders were registered in the race for the category of Extreme Stock.

On Saturday they had the free practice. With just a week off from the CEV at Jerez race, the aim of Saturday was to set the bike ready for the time trials and adapt to the difficult cconditions of the circuit after a week of rain. There were many incidents on Saturday due to track conditions in the early trainings and Alex decided to get to know the situation without risking too much. In the second training, and with the track in better condition, the motorbike got ready to go for the pole on Sunday.

Sunday began with two 25-minute qualifying practices which decided the starting position. The pole is given to the rider who does the best combined time in both sessions. The goal was to be in the first row of the grid.

In the first qualifying practice he could only make 3 fast laps due to some technical problems on the motorcycle. Still, Alex set the fastest time of the session with a 1:47,336, with a lead of 0,5 seconds over the second place.

In the second qualifying practice it was decided to go for a fast lap because on Saturday we found that the lace was constant. In his second lap, Alex was ranked in first place with a time of 1:46,962, and decided to enter the Box. Because of the pressure of his rivals, he decided to go back to the track to achieve a mark of 1:46,651, which allowed him to leave from the first position of the grid.

The race was scheduled for 14 laps of 4,2km. During all the race Alex and his Honda were fighting for the first position with Manel Segarra and his Yamaha, giving place to an exciting race. Finally after a long struggle that would last until the last lap, Alex took the lead and managed to pass in first place by the finish line with a difference of just 0,229 seconds over second place. An exciting race that ended with the victory of our pilot.

Full weekend for Briefing Competició Team: 1st position in the 2 Qualifying practices, Pole and 1st position in the Race.

We hope to see you on 21 and 22 April at the Circuit of Navarra which in the 2nd Spanish Speed Championship.
